JM-2000 Tipper Popular In U.S. Filing Rooms

Mills across the country are finding that the JM-2000 Plasmatic Tipper and Stand Alone Annealer is the machine of choice for both circular and bandsaw tipping needs. The JM-2000 continues to be Jacobsen Manufacturing's most popular machine.

It offers significant savings in both time and alloy. The JM-2000 uses wire or rod and requires no special preparation prior to retipping. Unlike resistance weld tippers which require a complete new tip, the JM-2000 simply melts the old tip and adds new alloy only as needed. This process reduces the tipping cost significantly.

The JM-2000 chill molds form the tooth for each single-pass grinding and the new tip is always centered on the plate. The JM-2000 is user friendly. Its fully automatic "walk-away" operation frees filing room personnel during operation.

The Stand Alone Annealer is an independent machine. The processing speed is increased because annealing is not done on the tipping machine. In fact, the JM-2000 Annealer has been so popular Jacobsen Manufacturing was asked to produce it as a separate piece of equipment for use with resistance weld tippers. It specifically speeds up the process time while offering a consistently fool-proof anneal.

The heavy-duty modular construction offers long life and easy maintenance. Because it is designed and built in the U.S.A., replacements parts are readily available.

Jacobsen includes start-up installation supervision and training. Call on our technical sales people nationwide to help with set-up and maintenance questions.

Heat  Treat  Development  For   Stainless  Steel  Saws

Interest in stainless steel circular saws is on the rise, and Pacific/Hoe has developed a new heat treat process specifically for the production of stainless steel saws. This new process improves the flatness of the saw and tightens the hardness tolerances.

The plate flatness we have come to expect in conventional saws is difficult to match in stainless steel. Our plant management and engineers have researched the metallurgy and heat treat specifications for this special stainless steel alloy and have developed a new process that achieves the flatness required without excessive anvil work.

This new heat treat process also insures a consistent hardness throughout the plate. Stainless steel saws are harder than conventional circular saw blades.

Stainless Offers Advantages & Disadvantages

In addition to hardness, there are several differences between stainless steel and conventional saws. The first is price; a stainless steel saw is more than double the price of a conventional saw. This is reason enough to carefully evaluate the benefits. Stainless steel saws are more resistant to corrosion than conventional saws, so if a mill runs highly corrosive woods, stainless may be a good choice.

Stainless steel saws also have a higher heat coefficient than conventional saws -- they can take more heat before the edge starts to wander. This offers some advantages in long piece curve sawing.

Stainless steel saws are a little more difficult to maintain in the anvil room and do take more time to put up. In some applications, plate thickness has been reduced, and in others there are no plate reductions. Stainless steel may not be for every application, but it is worth reviewing your needs with one of our technical Territory Managers to evaluate if a test would be worthwhile.

Pacific/Hoe is inventorying material to manufacture stainless steel saws up to .130p x 26" diameter. Most shipments have been in the 20" diameter gang saw range. Call 1-800-547-5537 for more information on stainless steel saws or to schedule an assessment on their application in your mill.

Bill Saily joined Pacific/Hoe in September, 2003, as the Territory Manager for Oregon. He has over 30 years of filing experience and was a Head Filer for 25 years.

Saily and his wife Diana have been very involved in the Western Saw Filers' Education Association. Saily has served as their Secretary for 20 years.

Pacific/Hoe Bandsaw Plant Can Match Any Tooth Shape

Any special tooth shape, vari-pitch pattern or standard profile can now be matched exactly by Pacific/Hoe's bandsaw production facility. They have just finished converting four more production bandsaw grinders to Computer Numeric Control. All production bandsaw grinders at their Portland facility are now CNC operated.

Programming to the CNC lasers and grinders is now integrated and tied together. Individual saw specs are saved and stored on the network by customer and profile, so perfect repeatability is assured order after order.

More and more mills are installing CNC grinders and exchanging program files is becoming more common. The key ingredients to exactly matching profiles are information and confirmation. Pacific/Hoe's Territory Managers will work with saw filers at the mills to gather tooth geometry information. Manufacturing will send out programs printed to scale for confirmation. They can even send a steel template when changes are needed or if there is a new application. This careful attention to detail helps ensure the profile will match as closely as possible.

New Information Needed For Accurate Ordering

A program number is now becoming part of the saw specification. It is now also very important to know what grinder is being used at the mill, especially when a steel template is submitted.

CNC grinding technology has changed the way fitting is done in manufacturing. Any match is possible and repeatability is ensured if all the correct information is available.

Review your profiles with your Territory Manager, and do not hesitate to ask Pacific/Hoe for a steel template with your program number.

Guide Expert Huey Long Advises Pacific/Hoe Customers

Internationally recognized guide expert Huey Long supervises engineering at Pacific/Hoe's Portland plant and is available to troubleshoot for their guide customers.

Long retired from Pacific/Hoe in 1999 after nearly forty years with the company. He was later persuaded to return to manage their Guide Products line.

Long was inducted into the Western Saw Filers' Educational Association Hall of Fame at their Annual Meeting in September, 2000. He is available to help guide customers with installations and engineering services.

Pacific/Hoe offers a full line of consumable products. You can view a complete listing on our web site at www.pacific-hoe.com.

Our years of experience in saw manufacturing have led to the development of a range of cutting tools specifically designed for all varieties of cutting conditions and materials. We think they are the best products available. You'll find our "Commitment to Quality" in our products and our service.

Carbide Tips, Strips & Blanks
Pacific/Hoe continues to offer an extremely broad range of tips, strips and blanks.

Our Accu-Ground carbide edger tips are manufactured to have optimum toughness and resiliency for rip sawing applications, as well as minimal drag and heat build up on tips while cutting.

Diamond Wheels
Our diamond and CBN wheels have been carefully engineered to provide for top maintenance of all saw tip categories.

All the wheels can be made with either diamond or CBN abrasive. Diamond abrasive should be specified for carbide tipped saws and CBN should be specified for saws tipped with alloy or high speed steel.

Grinding Wheels
Pacific/Hoe offers grinding wheels in zirconia oxide and aluminum oxide in a wide range of sizes. Our Hoe-rizon brand features specific gravity and hardness to be sharp, cool and free cutting.

Ceramic Grinding Wheels
Pacific/Hoe is now offering grinding wheels incorporating 3M's new 321 ceramic abrasive grain. This grain is available in both resinoid and vitrified bonds and is unparalleled in performance and quality.

Conventional ceramic grain fractures and dulls, but this high quality ceramic sheds very small particles during the grinding process, there exposing new sharp grain continually.

Accu-Ground Tipping Fixture
Our Accu-Ground Tipping fixture can save an estimated 75% of carbide tip grinding time. We also carry a full line of filing room tools.

JM-2100 Stand Alone Induction Annealer

The JM-2100 Stand Along Annealer is now available as a completely independent addition to any filing room that uses resistance weld tippers.

It features its own independent control panel and microprocessor and does not have to be used in conjunction with Jacobsen's JM-2000 tipper.

The JM-2100 gives you an independent station where you can anneal for speed. It also allows you to take advantage of the Jacobsen self-aligning head for your vari-pitch bands.

The annealing process is from the plate back into the tip, so you can run HSS on resistance machines.

The JM-2100 features easy setup, independent operation, speed and versatility. It is designed for both band and circles.

Machine Specifications:
Electrical: 480 VAC - 3 phase - 60 cycle - 30 amp
