Jones & Orth Knives & Cutterheads

The Jones & Orth division of Pacific/Hoe represents over 70 years of continuous development and production of the thin planer knives, sidehead and profile knives, cutterheads and sleeves utilized by both the primary and secondary wood products industries. Pacific/Hoe today has best equipped and most modern plant in the country devoted to knife and cutterhead production. J&O is more than ever the preferred source of supply for those in the woodworking industry who demand the utmost in speed, accuracy, economy and maximum production.  J&O staff possess the technical knowledge and expertise to assist customers with advice and recommendations on virtually any of their planer needs.

Thin Planer Knives
Because of the great variation of textures of timber throughout the different sections of the country, special knife steels have been developed to meet all requirements. Care must be taken in selecting the right knife to give maximum production between grindings. All Pacific/Hoe thin planer knives are balanced in pairs, stamped and packaged for shipment. All popular planer knife sized are stocked for immediate delivery.

WC-120
Specially designed for cutting softwoods where there is a condition of rough, knotty and sandy lumber. It is a high carbon and high chrome alloy which makes it super tough. It will retain its keen edge for long runs and give perfect finishes.

PH-10
A special type of high speed steel for general all purpose uses. This is a special Pacific/Hoe alloy using a high percentage of tungsten to endure the toughest and hardest treatment. It is made to withstand the heat of fast heavy feeds, maintaining a keen edge and giving a fine finish.

Corrugated Knife Steel
Pacific/Hoe corrugated knives provide the extra strength and safety needed for long difficult cuts. The machined corrugations fit exactly with the cutting heads of all standard machines allowing a more secure knife fit and easier set up than the crush ground corrugations on other, lesser quality knives. Pacific/Hoe corrugated steel is available in both WC-120 and PH-10 steels in a wide variety of widths. Bar length steel is standard 25-3/4" long. Corrugated steel is also available in cut-to-length sizes.

L-Type & H-Type Mill-To-Pattern Knives
Pacific/Hoe remains the industry leader for the highest quality sidehead and profile knives. Years of research and production have led to the development of the most comprehensive library of drawings and patterns available anywhere. All knives are manufactured from extruded high alloy knife steel bars and every facet is precision machined to the exact standards and tolerances required. While this process is complex and demanding, the knives produced are of such superior quality to investment cast knives as to defy comparison. All knives from the simplest eased edge patterns to the most complicated tongue and groove, shiplap or resaw patterns are balanced, numbered and packaged in sets

Cutterheads
Pacific/Hoe remains the premier choice for high quality, precision manufactured cutterheads and sleeves. Seven decades of engineering expertise and development have created the most comprehensive knowledge base regarding cutterhead requirements to be found virtually anywhere.

All Pacific/Hoe heads are manufactured from solid billet and have every facet precision machined in our computer controlled CNC milling centers. This guarantees our customers the absolute finest tolerances available.

Pacific/Hoe offers a complete line of L-type, H-type, Woods, Block-type or corrugated knife steel side heads and profile heads. In addition, Pacific/Hoe can provide any type of splitter head including a carbide tipped spitter saw assembly. Pacific/Hoe can also manufacture many sizes of thin planer and corrugated planer heads. All heads come balanced with knives included unless specifically ordered otherwise.

Sleeves
In addition to offering heads in all of the standard Stetson-Ross tapered arbor sizes, Pacific/Hoe provides a series of universal sleeves for the standard straight shaft arbors sizes 1-13/16", 2-1/8", and 2-3/16". These sleeves are: J&O Self-Centering Profile Sleeve (available in many lengths), J&O double Nut Self-Center (for wider profile heads), and the J&O Universal Side-Head Sleeve for the Stetson-Ross 1-13/16" straight sidehead shaft. Both the Self-centering Profile Sleeves and the Universal Side-Head Sleeves are made for the common 2-13/16" bore type discs. Pacific/Hoe keeps an inventory of all the separate parts for these sleeves, so if a particular part becomes damages or worn out, it can be replaced inexpensively and quickly.

Pacific/Hoe also maintains a large inventory of gibs, gib screws and jacking screws on hand that planermen all over have come to rely on when their supply of parts is low, lost or damaged.
